Central
Patagonia is known for its beautiful mountain lakes, its virgin
temperate rainforests and its multiple islands and fjords.
Drive in Chile along the famous Austral Road (Carretera Austral).
Visit two very exclusive (zero tourists!) enormous glaciers
(Glaciar Exploradores and Glaciar Leones) in the middle of
their natural environments on the edge of the Northern Ice
Field (Campo de Hielo Norte). Make an exciting glacier walk
and enjoy an excellent barbecue (asado) at a campfire. |

Beyond the Carretera
Austral, cut off by the Campo de Hielo Sur (Southern Ice Field)
lies Southern Patagonia, a country of unspoiled wilderness and
solitude: bleak windswept plains, great mountain ranges and
immense glaciers. Drive in Argentina along the legendary Ruta
40. Walk in the famous Fitz Roy (Argentina, PN Los Glaciares)
and Torres del Paine (Chile) mountain ranges. Ride horses in
these pure natural environments. See gigantic icebergs falling
off the 5km long and 60m high cracking glacier Perito Moreno
near El Calafate. |
